Safe Sitter

BroMenn Women's and Children's Services offers a Safe Sitter babysitting class for any 11- to 13-year-old girl or boy, to help prepare adolescents for the responsibilities of babysitting.

Safe Sitter is a medically accurate child care curriculum written by a pediatrician.  In a Safe Sitter class, students learn through discussion, practice and role play about a wide variety of topics including:

  • practical child care techniques and managing common problem behaviors
  • safety precautions, first aid, recognizing emergencies and calling for emergency help
  • babysitting ethics and etiquette
  • business aspects of babysitting.

Safe Sitter has been recognized for excellence by the American Academy of Pediatrics.  Students must be 11 years old by the class date.
