Eureka Community Hospital Continues Ultrasound Campaign

Eureka Community Hospital's (ECH) effort to raise funds for new and more advanced ultrasound equipment for the hospital's Radiology department is one-third of the way to its goal after just one month of active campaigning.

"We've raised nearly $24,000 of our $82,000 goal so far," said campaign chair Robin Honeg.  "It's a terrific start, and we owe it to the great generosity of the people in this area who want to continue to see strong healthcare in Woodford County."

The new equipment would provide better imaging detail than their current ultrasound technology.  Improved imaging can lead to quicker diagnosis at earlier stages of disease. ECH's Radiology department has seen a 24% increase in the annual number of ultrasound procedures conducted since 2006.

Ultrasound is an especially valuable tool for evaluating the first three months of pregnancy.  It is also useful in diagnosing hypertension, and for determining the presence of gall stones, abdominal cysts or masses, or even potentially life-threatening events like blood clots.  It is often used in combination with ECH's digital mammography capabilities to diagnose and treat breast cancer.
